The Oregon Trail Steam Release November

The Oregon Trail journeys off Apple Arcade and travels to Steam this November

The Oregon Trail is no longer an Apple Arcade exclusive.

The Oregon Trail is making its way to Steam after launching as an Apple Arcade exclusive last year. It was well received but only had so much mass appeal due to its limited reach. Most people just don’t use or take advantage of Apple Arcade. However, that won’t be a problem for much longer.

A Steam version of The Oregon Trail will be available soon. According to its steam page, Gameloft has given it a release date of “November.” It’s vague for sure, but you can expect a more specific date to be selected closer to launch.

The Oregon Trail is named after the wagon route of the same name. It is a long stretch of road that reaches over 2000 miles used to transport goods throughout the 1800s. This release of The Oregon Trail is a remake of the original, which was a text-based strategy game released back in 1971. The series has had several entries since then, but none are quite as polished as Gameloft‘s latest work.

Outside of the obvious advancements in presentation and accessibility, the Steam version of The Oregon Trail improves a lot over its predecessors. It offers a much fairer view of 1800s America, providing insight into both the pioneers and Native Americans. Furthermore, it features 15 playable journeys, seven quests, over 140 achievements, and a new fishing minigame.

A faithful remake

Despite Gameloft wanting to deliver a fresh experience with its Steam release, The Oregon Trail still takes heavy inspiration from the original game. This version was created as an officially licensed product with the backing of HarperCollins Productions. It looks to modernize a classic while still staying true to the values that made it a classic in the first place. Gameloft’s The Oregon Trail is the exact kind of remake that most fans dream of.
