The Dark Pictures Anthology’s co-op modes are incredibly popular with horror fans, and Supermassive Games has continued that tradition with its Dead by Daylight spinoff The Casting of Frank Stone, which features a couch co-op mode that lets you share the scares with friends.
Sadly, the online multiplayer mode from previous Supermassive titles doesn’t return in The Casting of Frank Stone, but thanks to modern technology, there are ways to play the game with friends over the internet. It’s not ideal, but at least it’s still possible. Here’s everything you need to know about co-op in The Casting of Frank Stone.
How to play local couch co-op in The Casting of Frank Stone
The multiplayer mode in The Casting of Frank Stone is called “Die Together.” If you select this option when starting the game, you can share the story with up to five players in local couch co-op. The five main characters of the story are divided among the participating players, and everyone passes the controller around when new characters take the spotlight.
It’s not very different from passing the controller around in a single-player game, but it’s something. All the choices you make still affect the story in co-op mode, and characters can still die if you mess up. Whether you want to backseat your friends or let them make their own mistakes while you bite your tongue is up to you. That’s the fun of these games, anyway.
Does The Casting of Frank Stone have online multiplayer?
Unfortunately, the Shared Story online mode from Supermassive’s Dark Pictures games doesn’t make an appearance in The Casting of Frank Stone. There is no official online co-op mode in The Casting of Frank Stone.
However, you can still take advantage of the game’s local co-op mode if you want to play with friends online. If you’re on PC, you can use Steam Remote Play to stream The Casting of Frank Stone to your friends and let them take control of different characters in the game’s Die Together mode.
On PlayStation, you can use Share Play to stream the game to a party of friends and give everyone a virtual controller so they can participate. There isn’t a built-in streaming service on Xbox consoles, though, so you’re out of luck if you’re on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
Streaming the game isn’t a perfect solution, but it’s the only way to play The Casting of Frank Stone online. Thankfully, the game rarely needs lightning-fast reactions so the stream delay shouldn’t be too much of a problem. You can always tweak the settings if you need some breathing room with QTEs and other challenges as well.
