Best weapon upgrades in Dave the Diver

There is no best overall weapon upgrade in Dave the Diver. The nature of the game means that you will often have to go in with specialized weapons for specific tasks. You don’t want to go shooting a school of jellyfish with a grenade launcher; you’ll end up with no fish and all jelly. You also really don’t want to bring a net to a shark fight. Here are the best upgrades for weapons for the three main scenarios Dave the Diver will find himself.

Boss fight weapon upgrade

In a boss fight in Dave the Diver, you don’t need to worry about netting 3-star meat or delicate extraction. The only thing that matters is pounding your enemy into a paste. The best approach is to go with something that has high damage and a good range.

It has to be the upgraded Flame Sniper Rifle for delivering boss cooking damage. The added 7 points of damage paired with 60% additional fire damage delivers some serious pain. However, it will totally ruin the meat of any fish that isn’t a boss, so don’t go using it on anything you want to serve. It’ll be burnt to a cinder.

The range makes this the upgrade choice for a boss fight. Although it isn’t the highest damage or magazine size, the range allows Dave the Diver to keep a safe distance.

You will need:

  • 1 Red Sniper Rifle
  • 3 Whitetip Reefshark Tooth
  • 15 Fragment
  • 150 Gold

The Steel Net Gun is an absolute must-have if you’re looking to catch up to seven fish at the same time. It not only nets them easily but results in 3-star fish meat. Dave the Diver can quickly fill his fish tanks with some of the harder-to-catch Jellyfish, Tuna, and others with this upgrade.

The Steel Net Gun has a huge advantage over the traps as you no longer have to wait for them to be available in the shop. You can simply go in armed with the net gun and refill from the ammo dumps around the map.

You will need:

  • 1 Large Net Gun
  • 1 Steel Rope
  • 3 Pelican Eel Skin
  • 20 Topaz
  • 3400 Gold

Best upgrade for the big fish

Sometimes you’re going to need to catch something a little bigger than the net will allow. Chapters such as the Storm Shark Event will have you patrolling the seas for sharks. These beasts of the deep aren’t going to be so easily caught by a Steel Net, and the Flame upgrade will ruin the meat, so you’ll have to go in armed with a different upgrade.

The best upgrade for catching the bigger fish in Dave the Diver has to be the tranquilizer upgrade. The weapon you choose to put this on is up to you. If you prefer range, opt for the sniper rifle. If you are a fan of an area of effect, choose the grenade launcher upgrade. For a large magazine, upgrade the rifle.

The beauty of the tranquilizer upgrade is that it not only has a 40% chance to put the fish to sleep but also keeps the meat in good condition for extraction. Use a tranquilizer, then implement Dave the Divers salvage drone to haul the meat to the restaurant.
