Developer Hopoo Games has been churning out content for Risk of Rain 2 on a fairly regular basis since the game’s launch around a year ago. Following on the heels of its Hidden Realms update, which saw the return of Acrid, the developer announced the release date for Artifacts 2.0. You’ll be able to find more loot and unlock new artifacts for the game starting on March 31.
This next update sees a massive influx of new content. We’re talking new stages populated by monsters familiar and never seen before. Some of the classes — including Commando, Engineer, Acrid, and Huntress — will get new skill variants to unlock. And of course, Artifacts 2.0 will have more loot to pilfer, consisting of equipment and items. Hopoo is also being extra mysterious with a new Lunar Item “of dubious purpose.” Spooky. Oh, and there will be a new skin for the Engineer survivor, but that’s nothing too major — unless you’re a fan of the engineer, of course.
Not just some arty facts
What is major is the crux of the update itself: Artifacts. The artifacts returning to Risk of Rain 2 are special items that can only be unlocked by completing in-game challenges. Equipping them before your run will grant various modifiers that “dramatically” change the game.
“These treasures can be unlocked by completing in-game challenges and then equipped at the start of a run to dramatically modify aspects of the game, adding variety and challenge,” reads the press release for the update. “Some are new, some are returning, and range from ‘oh fun’ to ‘who hurt you?'”
Risk of Rain 2 is still in early access on Steam. However, that might not be the case for much longer. As stated, Hopoo has been staying firm with its content roadmap for the game. It has, since the early access launch, dropped several major content updates, with Artifacts 2.0 being the fourth. Following Artifacts should be the official launch of Risk of Rain 2 1.0. There’s no solid release date for the full version, but we know it’s coming sometime this spring.
