First of all we want to thank everyone who has become a PC Invasion Supporter. We’ve made a good start but there’s still a lot to do.
As we mentioned on the supporter page, it has become imperative that to secure a future in the editorial space we need to offer subs. Our most recent stats on ad blocking have indicated that there has been a year on year increase in its use and we have lost about 43% of all our ad revenue in the past year.
That’s a big number and has had a massive impact on what we can create. Not because we’re not working flat-out already, but because we know we can offer more content by getting more writers on-board. Both Peter and Tim first came to PC Invasion as freelance writers and have stuck with the site for more than five years, that’s quite amazing in this day and age but all three of us are very much on the same page with regards to the content.
All three of us believe there is a room for quality writing still, despite what’s happening on the Internet with click-bait or misleading headlines. We know that’s an easy way to grab readers but we hate it as much as you.
We want PC Invasion to be a site where PC gamers come to discuss and debate the issues and feel a sense of real community. The PC Invasion Supporter scheme is the first step in making that happen and shows we are listening to our most loyal readers.
Now we are up and running, it’s now time to think about the extras. For competitions and giveaways you will always have priority access. A post will go on the main page notifying everyone there is a competition or giveaway but only you will have access to it for 24-48 hours depending on what it is. If we only have a few keys for something, we will randomly pick winners from the PC Invasion Supporters. We will do our best to try and get as many as possible.
In the next few days Peter, Tim and myself will be discussing content that’s exclusive to you but before we do that, we want to ask you what you would like us to do? We gave a few ideas on the introduction page but if there is anything in particular then let us know in the comments below.
That’s it for this first update and once again thank you for your support. It means a lot.
Update:
Since this was posted earlier today we have now linked up this section and content from the front page of the site. Now all supporters will see the top two latest additions that are Supporter only along with a link to the Supporter content index. Note, you have to be logged in to see this on the front page.
