Although Tetsuya Nomura didn’t attend the Future of Final Fantasy roundtable, he did pass on a mesage to the fans via one of his colleagues.
During the closing of the ceremony, Hajime Tabata breifly spoke about the development of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. He then closed the discussion off, saying:
“Tetsuya Nomura wanted to give the message that he’ll soon show the future of Final Fantasy.”
Now this doesn’t exactly clarify if he even means Final Fantasy Versus XIII. But what it does at least indicate, is that Nomura’s absence is likely due to being hard at work on a Final Fantasy project. Although Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been confirmed to be absent from TGS this year, perhaps there could have been a name change, and we will soon see the reveal.
It’s pretty hard to say, especially since Square-Enix love throwing sucker punches to the fans like this when coming up to big events. The only thing that is clear, is that some new Final Fantasy based footage is on it’s way again soon. When soon will be though is a completely different question.
