Re-Logic has released yet another final update for Terraria. This time around it’s the Labor of Love update, which brings a huge list of changes to Terraria. The update is already live and free for anyone who already owns Terraria. Just update your game on Steam, and play to your heart’s content.
Labor of Love improved just about every aspect of Terraria. Unlike previous updates, it doesn’t add a new end game or even adding any new bosses. Instead, Labor of Love focused on what’s already there and enhances the existing experience.
Quality of life improvements
Labor of Love brought a wide range of quality of life improvements. For example, players can now set up gear loadouts that let them quickly switch setups on the go, so you can effectively switch between different classes in an instant based on whatever is best suited to the task.
The inventory screen has also received some love. All stackable items will now stack to 9999, and you can place all accessories in your social slots again. Another nice touch is that when selecting ‘Quick Stack to Nearby Chests’ you’ll now be able to see the items physically travel to your chests.
This is a smaller but significant improvement, but bosses now have a dedicated, visible health bars. Previously, to see a boss’ remaining health you would have to mouse over them. Similarly, your own health and mana bars now display a numeric value, making it easier to keep track of.
As for placing items, players can place rope freely regardless of where they are. Previously, rope didn’t interact well with minecart tracks and platforms, but it will now seamlessly pass through them. This should help players in the early game who haven’t unlocked better mobility options yet.
World Seeds
In addition to the World Seeds mechanic being improved, some existing Seeds, such as Celebration Mk 10 and For the Worthy, have received substantial tweaks that should make them more interesting and unique.
As for new seeds, Labor of Love added three of them for you to try out. The Zenith Seed promises to be the “true magnum Opus,” of Terraria World Seeds. Meanwhile, the Remix Seed flips the world upside down, challenging players to start in hell and work their way up. Finally, the No Traps Seed removes all traps from the open world.
Melee Overhaul
It’s no secret that melee is widely considered Terraria‘s weakest combat style. As you progress through the game melee becomes less convenient, as its short range limits its uses.
Global weapon tweaks have been made that buff swords, pickaxes, axes, hammers, hamaxes, and flails. Furthermore, most melee weapons have received stat buffs that improve their raw damage, use time, and reach.
However, even after these changes some melee weapons still felt weak, so Re-Logic has made some individual changes too. For example, the Dark Lance now generates a shockwave at the end of the lance, increasing its effective range.
Another melee weapon to receive individual buffs is the Horseman’s Blade. It now emits an area of damaging energy around the blade, effectively giving it area of effect damage. It also has much better rear coverage, which makes it easier to strike enemies that creep up behind you.
The small stuff
Along with the bigger reworks Labor of Love also made a lot of smaller changes that dedicated Terraria players will appreciate. Some new tools have been added to make building more convenient, and the clentaminator has been greatly buffed. There’s also a new shellphone item that lets you set the location of the magic mirror’s teleport.
Last but not least are the boss tweaks that look to give some of Terraria‘s older bosses a new lease on life. Golem, Duke Fishron, and the Pumpkin Moon event have all been given light reworks to make them more interesting.
There are a huge number of tiny changes that we can’t cover in one post despite how impactful they are. This is a huge update with literally thousands of improvements, and listing them all would take all day. Consider checking out the full patch notes to see everything that Labor of Love has to offer.
