Further to the news that the first episode in Telltale’s Game of Thrones series is due “soon,” a few more details have emerged about the episodic title. They come from that venerable bastion of videogame writing … er … Entertainment Weekly. See, games really are mainstream now.
Players will control five characters from House Forrester, a Northern House loyal to the Starks, across six episodes. The Forresters exist in George RR Martin’s original A Song of Ice and Fire book series, but only in a “passing mentions” kind of way. That should provide a decent blank(ish) slate for Telltale to construct some new narrative around.
Time-wise, the Game of Thrones episodes will follow the Forresters’ actions from the end of HBO’s third season, through all the events of the fourth and up to the start of the fifth. I won’t go into too much detail there, because it would inevitably result in horrible spoilers, but people familiar with the show or the books will know roughly what period that spans; and how it’s relevant to the North.
Game of Thrones is being made in partnership with HBO, so there’s a possibility that character likenesses from the TV version will appear. The article suggests that House Forrester may also be involved in conflict with rivals House Whitehall (who, as far as I know, have been invented for the game.)
