Prepare yourself to say goodbye to those discs, because the future of the indsutry is digital.
That’s according to developer Techland, who told us that they’re going digital with their latest Call of Juarez title so as not to be left out from the “many opportunities” that exist in the land of ones and zeroes.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is coming to XBLA and PSN later this year (PC early 2013), we spoke to Techland international brand manager Blazej Krakowiak about the move to digital.
“Ubisoft has always been one of the premium digital publishers, and we all know that digital is the future of this industry,” said Krakowiak. “It makes sense, given our long history working with Ubisoft, to take Call of Juarez digital. There are so many opportunities in digital, and we want to make sure that Call of Juarez isn’t left out.
“We have very high ambitions; we want it to look outstanding and want to push the boundaries of quality in digital games. The game looks good even now, so once we’re finished and it looks better we hope we’ll make quite a splash on XBLA and PSN.”
Rumours are still circulating about what format the next Xbox and PlayStation are going to take, but heavy support for digital seems like a sure bet. Sony releases virtually every PS Vita game in digital form alongside the boxed product and, based on today’s news, it looks as though Wii U games are to be released in both digital and boxed form.
