When starting The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you only have a single full battery in your Energy Cell to work with. You expand your Energy Cell by gathering up crystallized charges found in certain chests and enemies as well as the abandoned mines in the Depths. Eventually, however, you will fully upgrade your Energy Cell, which may leave you with a heap of crystallized charges still sitting in your inventory. Fortunately, Tears of the Kingdom provides you with an incentive to keep collecting crystallized charges even after you get all of your Energy Wells.
A new use for crystallized charges
You can learn what this incentive is as soon as you obtain your last Energy Well upgrade from a crystal refinery. At this point, the Steward Construct will offer to sell you Zonai device capsules at the cost of a handful of crystallized charges. Notably, this new shop features every type of Zonai device in the game, making this a convenient way to stock up on specific devices you may not have that many of.
At any given time, the Steward Construct will have ten of each Zonai device in stock, and almost all of them will cost three crystallized charges apiece. The Big Batteries serve as the only exception, as each one requires 30 crystallized charges to purchase. This makes for one of the only places in the game where you can reliably obtain Big Batteries, as they are otherwise quite rare. Even though your fully upgraded Energy Cell should provide you with more than enough battery power for most situations, having more Big Batteries on hand certainly doesn’t hurt.
Ultimately, I found that the Zonai capsule dispensers make for a more efficient method of stocking up on specific Zonai devices. Having said that, crystal refineries are the only instances in Tears of the Kingdom where every Zonai device is available in one place, so they can still help you greatly as long as you have crystallized charges on hand.
