Tales from the Borderlands will be an episodic game developed by Telltale Games in collaboration with Gearbox Software. The episodes will be set after the events of Borderlands 2 and will feature two new protagonists. The games will be in Telltale’s episodic style but will still feature a spin on the shooting mechanics that make Borderlands so fun.
During a SXSW panel, Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch, Franchise Director Matthew Armstrong, Telltale’s President Kevin Bruner, and designer Harrison Pink, sat down to answer some questions and reveal new information on the upcoming game. They said that the game will still take place on Pandora and some familiar faces from previous Borderlands games will make an appearance. However, the game will feature two new protagonists, Fiona and Rhys.
An interesting feature in the game will be that the story will unfold via flashbacks and will allow you to play through different versions of the same events as they are told by either Fiona or Rhys. In terms of gameplay, the mechanics will be similar to previous Telltale episodic games we’ve seen like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. However, shooting mechanics will be implemented “just in a Telltale kind of way.”, said Pink.
The first episode will be released digitally this year. Telltale are currently working on The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead Season 2 and a new Game of Thrones episodic series.
