Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris – Thundertail the Vicious Divine Beast guide

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The Eastern Gate can be found in the Great Mound Road of Eastavarieth. This is actually the location of a major boss fight during Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris‘ fourth chapter. It’s also where you’ll find four golden treasure chests and, if you really want the challenge, another Monolith to spawn a Divine Beast — Thundertail the Vicious. Assuming you already know the basics about Monoliths and summoning Divine Beasts, let’s get started with our hunt.

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris – Monolith and elites (Great Mound Road/Eastern Gate and Villind Plateaus)

The Monolith in Great Mound Road is actually very easy to find. All you need to do is spawn at the Eastern Gate savepoint.

Continue making your way east and avoid all the scorpion mobs. You’ll eventually spot the Monolith at the end of the path.

We’ve got seven targets: three are found in the Great Mound Road and the other four are in Villind Plateaus.

Great Mound Road: Elite #1

Here’s a map of the Great Mound Road zone (I’ve encircled the spots where you’ll find a couple of the elites since I already killed them beforehand):

The first elite is Razorhead the Cruel, a level 50 mantis. You probably ran into this chap while looking for treasure chests in the area.

This thing hits hard and fast, and, even if most of your companions are around the same level, you’re going to take a beating.

Here are the rewards for slaying this creature:

Great Mound Road: Elite #2

After you’re done with Razorhead, continue onwards to the southern ramparts.

Cross to the next section and you’ll find a ramp that goes up. There’s a level 73 Biting Bat here. It will kill you if you can’t avoid its attacks. Plus, it’s flying around so some of your skills might not land (just be sure to have high accuracy).

Here are its rewards:

Great Mound Road: Elite #3

You’ll have to fast travel to the Qeian Hinterlands savepoint. It’s past the section of the map where you fought Rockwing the Silentious, a stone dragon that you woke up by having it smell durian fruit.

No, I’m not making stuff up. It’s actually part of the Back to Rest main quest in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris.

Anyway, if you look due west of the save point, you’ll find a tunnel.

This will lead you to a crystal-filled cavern.

Crystalblaze the King (level 52) is your target here. Take it out for some neat rewards:

Villind Plateaus: Elite #1

Here’s a map of Villind Plateaus:

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 1a

Our first target is just to the west of the Villind Plateaus/starting area savepoint. It’s a level 67 Great Horned Hopper.

Rewards:

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 1c

Villind Plateaus: Elite #2

From there, go north and you’ll find a level 61 Chomping Dragon.

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 2a

Rewards:

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 2b

Villind Plateaus: Elite #3

Next, look northeast and you’ll see a valley. Go ahead and make your way to the very end of that.

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 3a

Rubyleaf the Enchanting (level 50) will emerge.

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 3b

Go ahead and show the rose your thorns.

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 3c

Rewards:

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 3d

Villind Plateaus: Elite #4

The last elite here is near Drugo’s Temple. After spawning, look to the south and you’ll see a small waterfall that leads to a river.

Sao Al Monodiv Gmr 4a

The monster in the area is Greyfang the Sharp (level 43). Defang this beast.

Divine Beast: Thundertail the Vicious

Once you’re finished with all seven kills, fast travel back to the Eastern Gate and save your game. Run to the end of the path and be ready for a battle with a Divine Beast.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris Thundertail The Vicious Divine Beast Monolith Eastern Gate Great Mound Road 5a

Thundertail the Sharp is a level 83 (!!!) Divine Beast that’s really annoying to fight. It’s got 13.5 million HP, and it’s quick pouncing attacks (Shadow Swirling Slash) will drop you like a bag of chips.

Here are its other abilities:

  • Shadow Illusive Invasion – Jumps around the area and fires bolts from its tail.
  • Shadow Ripple Ray – Fires energy at a wide arc, likely damaging any companions in melee range.
  • Shadow Lion’s Lightning – Calls down lightning strikes in an area; the lighting will stun anyone it hits for several seconds.

Carefully whittle down its health when you can, and try to attack it from a distance with a bow (preferably Starfall if you already defeated Sunhorn the Vanished). Thundertail might be as strong as Thunderlips, but he’s not going over today, brother.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris Thundertail The Vicious Divine Beast Monolith Eastern Gate Great Mound Road 5d

Eliminating this Divine Beast nets you the Dragontail Whip. It’s got +147 damage, +24 DEX, +10 critical, and “Curse of the Weak.” This perk debuffs an enemy with -7 attack level and -1 defense level.
