The first Monolith you’ll probably encounter during your adventures in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is the one found in Cordea Plains. In fact, you’ve likely spotted it while looking for the zone’s treasure chests. Assuming you already know the basics about Monoliths and summoning Divine Beasts, let’s go ahead and discuss what you can expect once you face Sunhorn the Vanished.
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris – Monolith and elites (Cordea Plains and Mildea Plains)
Let’s do a quick recap. The Monolith in Cordea Plains is north of the Bonfire checkpoint where you found one of the treasure chests.
Just climb up the vines and you’ll reach it. Oh, the image below shows that all the seals have been engraved. Just imagine that nothing’s lit up yet if you’re only starting your Divine Beast hunt now.
Anyway, you’re required to kill elites in Cordea Plains and Mildea Plains. The former has two targets and the latter has five.
Cordea Plains: Elite #1
Check out Cordea Plains’ map below:
There are only two elites here and one of those is a critter you’ve encountered fairly often as you’re exploring Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris‘ beginner zone. It’s the level 50 Honey Ant that’s close to the southern savepoint and the Scout class statue.
It’s an ant, so go squish it. You can see the rewards below:
Cordea Plains: Elite #2
For the next one, you’ll need to fast travel to the Omarge Farmstead. Head south and you’ll spot a Clamp Cluster (that’s not our target).
Instead, follow the hill and turn southwest to spot a clearing.
The elite here is Boltshade the Unseen (a clandestine beast that pops up once you reach the destination). It’s only level 38 so you shouldn’t have any problems if you’ve already leveled up quite a bit.
You can see the rewards below:
Mildea Plains: Elite #1
Here’s a map of Mildea Plains:
Go ahead and fast travel to the Devil’s Belly. Follow the marker north and drop down the opening. You’ll be in a cavern surrounded by giant crystals.
Nightgrave the Barbarous (level 43) can be found here.
You can see the rewards below:
Mildea Plains: Elite #2
Fast travel back to the Devil’s Belly and make your way to the west. Our target is actually close by. It’s Icethorn the Bloodshot (level 40).
You can see the rewards below:
Mildea Plains: Elite #3
Fast travel to the Nameless Village Ruins and make your way south. There’s a small hill and our target is somewhere up top.
This one’s a bit tougher since it’s a Horned Cave Cricket (level 62). Try to stunlock it and keep it at downed status if you can.
You can see the rewards below:
Mildea Plains: Elite #4
Go back to the Nameless Village Ruins and head northwest. Our target is right above us.
Go around the bluff and follow the sloping path.
You’ll eventually reach our enemy Blackbolt the Crimson (level 52).
You can see the rewards below:
Mildea Plains: Elite #5
Our final elite is just to the south from where we finished off Blackbolt the Crimson. Head there all the way to the shore. It’s Blacksludge the Armored (level 48).
You can see the rewards below:
Divine Beast: Sunhorn the Vanished
Once you’ve broken all seven seals, head back to Cordea Plains. Save your game and make your way to the clearing beyond the Monolith to spawn the Divine Beast, Sunhorn the Vanished.
Sunhorn the Vanished is a level 83 (!!!) boss that’s going to annihilate you if you’re not careful. It’s regular swipes do 8K+ damage, and it’s also got a whopping 17.6 million HP.
The good news is that most of its attacks can be avoided, although there are some mechanics you need to be aware of. Sunhorn the Vanished uses a couple of defensive spells:
- Hexa Defense (white) – You can’t damage it with normal attacks so you need to use Sacred Arts.
- Hexa Retaliate (blue) – You can make it lose its immunity via a Sword Skill.
Whenever you break one of its defensive spells, it’ll channel Enmity Energy to empower its attacks. The goal is to keep bursting it down so you can increase your damage multiplier.
Lastly, it casts Hexa Bomb. The “tell” is when a gigantic black orb forms around Sunhorn the Vanished. A few seconds later, this orb will fire and hit a wide area (usually targetting Kirito but nearby companions will feel the brunt of the attack).
If you managed to turn Sunhorn the Vanished into Sunhorn the Vanquished, you’ll get Starfall, the best bow in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris (seen below). It has +210 damage, +34 AGL, and +9 critical. It also has the “Instantaneous Stance” perk (+10% skill speed).
