This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris will have a number of treasure chests for you to find throughout your travels. Some of these treasure chests, such as those in Cordea Plains, even contain powerful weapons that are much better compared to the ones obtained early in the game. Here’s our guide to help you out.

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris – The treasure chests of Cordea Plains

Although Cordea Plains isn’t Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, it’s the first one that could be counted as an “expansive, semi-open world location.” It’s got several treasure chests to boot. We’ll focus primarily on the golden treasure chests since these contain some decent weapons for Kirito and co., perfect for unlocking sword skills and progressing through the early-game.

Refer to the map below for the golden treasure chests in Cordea Plains. Also, don’t forget to place a marker on the treasure chests’ icons (press the left stick/LS) so you can be guided to the location; a beacon will even light your way.

Note: There are several high-level enemies that you’ll encounter near these spots. Do not fight them. Instead, just beeline straight for the chest, open it, and get the hell out of dodge.

Treasure chest #1: Lightcage

From the southernmost savepoint (aka. the entrance), make your way past the wooden bridge and the warrior statue which unlocks the Scout skill tree.

You’ll find Cordea Plains’ first golden treasure chest nearby on one of the bluffs. Unfortunately, the cliffside will offer you no means of getting across.

Instead, jump down and make your way around the valley until you reach an area with four level 25+ Great Horned Beetles. They’re not John, Paul, George, and Ringo, so you can ignore them.

You can actually climb the nearby cliff face just by continuing to jump on the surfaces because the textures are somewhat wonky. Up top, there are more mobs that’ll aggro you if they get close, so rush the chest and pick up the item quickly.

Treasure chest #2: Stainless Steel Claymore

Fast travel to the Bonfire savepoint (where one of chapter 1’s monster hunt quests took place). Head a bit to the northeast.

Treasure chest #3: Ancient Azure Wave

Climb back down using the vines and head all the way north. Run past all the mobs and the Noble Estate. Eventually, you’ll reach a clearing with some nasty-looking predators.

Treasure chest #4: Coir Whip

The fourth golden treasure chest in Cordea Plains is all the way to the west. Go ahead and make your way there. You’ll eventually spot the Hidden Mountain Village (which has a savepoint/fast travel spot).

A short distance from the Hidden Mountain Village, you’ll find a river where the treasure chest is located.

Swim towards the rock and Kirito will be able to jump on top of it.

Note: You might need to go to Settings -> Other settings -> Enable “Auto-Jump Obstacles” to get on top of the rock’s surface.

Go ahead and pick up your reward.

Reward: Coir Whip (uh, a whip) – 66 damage; +11 agility; 1-star rarity

You’ve found all the golden treasure chests in Cordea Plains. Next up, you’ll want to see what’s in store once you head to the Sothercrois region in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris‘ second chapter. Alternatively, you could jump ahead and check the treasure chests that are also in the other zones in Norlangarth (though you wouldn’t be able to return to those areas until chapter 3).
