SWERY, the directorial force behind Deadly Premonition, is returning to game development with a Fig campaign for The Good Life. That information comes from a Fig ‘first look’ email, so the campaign isn’t actually live yet. You can see the countdown to its launch (on 2 September), here.
As far as I can tell, this isn’t a game based on the 1970s British sitcom, but this is SWERY so you never know. The Good Life will be set in a rural British town called Rainy Woods, but you’ll be played as New York photographer Naomi. She’s paying off a debt, and discovers that at night everybody in the town turns into cats.
Nobody seems to recall what they do at night, but the town is curiously cheerful. And, at night, “certain secret paths, rooftops, and attics can only be accessed by cats.”
SWERY’s new White Owls studio will be developing, and the man himself has the following to say about it. More details will obviously be forthcoming when the Fig funding drive begins next month.
This game will inherit the spirit of Deadly Premonition, my most representative work, but it will also feature a brand new style of gameplay. It’s a mystery game based on the framework of a ‘daily life RPG.’ I’m positive that the happiest town in the world and the most bizarre townspeople in the world will capture your heart.
