Surviving the Aftermath has just received its fourth major batch of new content in the Great Minds update. Paradox Interactive and Iceflake Studios are rolling out updates for the post-apocalyptic colony builder like clockwork. The Surviving the Aftermath Great Minds update adds leaders of societies, a rebuilt Tech Tree, upgraded visuals to the colony, and a whole lot more. You can check out the full patch notes on the Paradox Interactive forums. And you can get a brief look at all the updates in the video below.
When meeting other colonies, you will now have to engage with their leaders, and their interests are not necessarily the same as your own. As gameplay features are expanded to include diplomacy and improved trading, these leaders will become an even more important aspect of the game.
The Tech Tree has received a complete overhaul. There are now five main research lines, each featuring alternative routes and optional sub-branches. Tech tree research now takes time as well as Tech Points and goes beyond just giving you access to new buildings. There are 79 techs in total, with more to come in future updates.
Wait, what happened?
The world ended. Now you need to carve out a little place to call home and take care of a bunch of survivors. In Surviving the Aftermath, the end of the world is just the beginning. You need to survive and thrive in a post-apocalyptic future where resources are scarce, but opportunities are plenty.
Once you’ve got a roof over your head and a wall around your people, you’ll have to set out into the world. Explore a vast procedurally generated land filled with resources to gather, bandits to bash, and more classic end-of-the-world stuff, like natural disasters. You can’t control everything. And sometimes you will need to make choices that test your morals.
You’re not entirely alone in your endeavor, as you can recruit from over 46 unique specialists. They’ll help you manage the colony’s resources and production. Plus, you can send them beyond the wall on scientific missions, scavenger hunts, and the above-mentioned bandit bashes.
Surviving the Aftermath can currently be purchased for $19.99 on the Epic Games Store and will include Great Minds and future updates.
