Reports suggest that Sony is intending to announce a new PlayStation 3 model at next month’s Gamescom.

The rumour originates from a new United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) submission.
That FFC filing suggests that the new model will be even smaller and slimmer that the PS3, which was released back in 2009. While a new model may seem somewhat unnecessary, current gen console makers are looking at any way to increase their system’s lifespan and a new model will likely help entice a fresh audience (if the price is right).
