Curse of the NecroDancer hit the dance floor with style and panache back in 2015. It quickly flew up the charts, amassing a strong following due to its enthralling core gameplay loop and incredible soundtrack by Danny Baranowsky. The game was a massive success, earning praise from players and those watching from home on Twitch. Developer Brace Yourself Games later followed up with the city builder Industries of Titan. However, it appears the team is preparing something new for the game that put it on the map. Crypt of the NecroDancer is getting a “super-secret announcement” tomorrow in the form of a YouTube livestream.
The “secret” announcement is set to begin on August 4 at 1 PM ET. No, I don’t have a clue what it’ll all be about — but I do have a curious thought. The description in the livestream pave reads: “A super-secret announcement related to the Crypt of the NecroDancer franchise. Stay tuned!” Brace Yourself Games considers Crypt of the NecroDancer a franchise. Of course, it could also be including the Switch-only release Cadence of Hyrule. But it does leave some room to speculate on a possible sequel.
Clues that the team was returning to the (now) franchise popped up last month when the team returned with a massive patch. The developer let the game chill out for five years but delivered a surprise update that promised “something bigger coming your way.” Talks of sequels aside, the update could have laid a foundation for a bigger content drop. Is the “super secret announcement” a possible expansion for Crypt of the NecroDancer? Maybe. It could also be a battle royale.
But I hope it’s not a battle royale
We won’t know what the secret announcement for Crypt of the NecroDancer will be until tomorrow. Until then, you can bookmark the video link posted above or hit the “notify me” option if you don’t want to miss it.
Crypt of the NecroDancer was a major hit at launch. The game managed an 87 MetaCritic score in 2015, and sits at “Overwhelmingly Positive” on Steam with nearly 20,000 user reviews. A musical roguelike, Crypt of the NecroDancer‘s popularity eventually saw merchandise ranging from t-shirts to toys and more. Cadence of Hyrule launched for Switch in 2019, bringing popular heroes from The Legend of Zelda into the mix.
