Street Fighter 6 has been showered with praise since reviews came out, and with good reason. Capcom has filled this title with content, and no matter how casual or hardcore you are, you’ll find something to enjoy. If you’ve plucked up the courage to try your first fighting game and don’t know where to start, don’t worry, we’ve got you. This is our Day 1 Beginners Guide for Street Fighter 6.
Street Fighter 6: Day 1 Beginners Guide
The intro screen for Street Fighter 6 offers three very different modes. If you played the beta and just want to fight, the Battle Hub is perfect. If you’re not ready for the cruel online environment yet, try these instead.
Check out the World Tour Mode
If you’re not eager to throw down online straight away, I recommend trying the World Tour. This mode is a full-blown open-world story set in the mean streets of Metro City (yes, the one from Final Fight!). In World Tour, you create your own unique character. There’s a grand overarching story featuring characters from the main game, and battles are all in traditional 2D format.
World Tour slowly introduces fight mechanics to you the longer you play. The best part is meeting ‘Masters’ who can teach you their fighting styles. After a few hours, your character will have a bizarre blend of fighting styles you can set up as you see fit. This mode teaches a lot about Street Fighter without blowing you up in 1v1 battles.
Even if you’re a veteran, the World Tour is far better than anyone expected and worth spending the hours in. If you’ve played Sega’s Yakuza series, you’ll feel right at home in this bold adventure mode.
Take it to the Fighting Grounds
If your journey around Metro City has tuckered you out, the Fighting Grounds is a great place to explore.
There are several modes, but if you’re looking for the perfect Fighter, Character Guides are a great resource. Every Fighter in the game has beginner-friendly tutorials that explain playstyles, what moves do, and when you should use them. These tutorials are the most beginner friendly I’ve ever seen in the genre and well worth browsing, no matter your skill level. If you find the controls are giving you problems, you can rebind them. For advice on that, check out our guide on Control Settings.
You can try out the traditional Arcade Mode in the Fighting Grounds too. Arcade Mode is a simple series of fights and bonus stages. If you set the number of battles to 12, there’s an extra bonus stage near the end reminiscent of the Parry Training in 3rd Strike. Every character has a simple story in this mode. As a single-player offering, it pales compared to the World Tour, but it’s still well worth a try.
Take on the World
For you online warriors out there, you’re spoilt for choice in Street Fighter 6. You can access online battles in the Fighting Grounds, but if you want something special, check out the Battle Hub.
The Battle Hub uses your avatar from World Tour and transports you to a colosseum full of arcade machines. This hub is populated by real players, and you can challenge them to battles by sitting at the machines. There’s a ‘chill’ vibe and silly stuff like a DJ table to mess around on between matches.
There’s even an area where you can play other Capcom classics like Street Fighter 2. Buying a full-priced game in 2023 to play a game from 1991 has got to be the greatest power play in fighting game history, and I’m all for it!
