It’s that time of year again. Carolers, egg nog, annoying Christmas music, and of course, an empty wallet. To help take even more jingle out of your picket, Steam has begun its annual Winter Sale. Thousands of games have been discounted over at the Steam store. So, if you’ve been holding onto something you really want on your wishlist, now might be the best time to make your way over.
Valve is attempting to make the deals a little sweeter with Festivity Tokens. You gain tokens by either purchasing games or completing quests. For every dollar spent, you earn 100 tokens to be spent on a variety of goods. Granted, most of what’s on offer is a bit useless: chat stickers, profile backgrounds, emoticons. But for those who spend about $50 USD or more, you can earn yourself a whopping $5 USD off your next purchase with a sale coupon. Holly jolly sorta savings!
Granted, it’s most likely you’re more interested in the discounts, and not the Winter Sale chat stickers — as enticing as they are. Some of the more recent mega hits are going for a few bucks off. The stunning Disco Elysium is marked down by 20%, which means it can be yours for $31.99. Both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its Deluxe Edition are going for 17% off, at $49.79 USD and $58.09, respectively. Rockstar rarely discounts its games, so grabbing Red Dead Redemption II for 20% off, or $47.99 USD, might be a good deal.
A quest for coins
However, if you want to work for that coupon, the Steam Winter Sale offers a plethora of “quests” to complete. You can earn 100 Festivity Tokens by using the storefront’s many features. Joining a Group Chat Room is one such quest, and adding a game to your wishlist is another. Oh! You can also watch a polygonal log burn in the Steam Yule Log Broadcast. The broadcast can be watched with friends or with a public chat, if you don’t mind the emote spam.
Head to the Steam store to check out the Winter Sale savings and earn some tokens. It starts today and runs until January 2, 2020 at 10 AM PST. Epic is also matching Valve with a winter sale of its own at the Epic Games Store, just in case you can’t find what you’re looking for at Steam.
