I can’t count how many sales we’ve reported on in the last few months, but hey, here’s another. And it’s the big one of the year. That’s right, the Steam Summer Sale has landed for 2021, and it’s bringing the usual plethora of discounts and Point Shop items. This time, however, Valve is doing something, well, kind of neat. Alongside the sale is an adventure minigame called Forge Your Fate. In it, you pick among a list of genres, where you take part in a story with narrative choices.
Forge Your Fate should feel familiar to those who have been to a book fair as a kid. It’s similar to those old Choose Your Own Adventure books, in which you are the star of the story. You get a couple of paragraphs explaining who or where you are, along with a challenge with two choices that offer a different path.
I tried out the Action story, and I was met with a man in a mustache with “angry-looking muscles.” I guess he drew frowny faces on himself. Anyway, I could choose to fight the man or escape via a plane. Being a manly man of the highest caliber, I picked the traditional sport of fisticuffs, where he broke down crying after missing his shot. I then unlocked an animated sticker of a crying face being punched. Cute. There are 14 stories in all, each offering up a sticker as a reward.
Enough about the adventures, spit out the discounts
The adventure-style minigame is more of a distraction, unless you collect stickers (no judgment). Naturally, the main draw in the Steam Summer Sale 2021 are the discounted games. You’ll get your lot of them this summer, with hundreds of games going on sale. No Man’s Sky is 50% off right now, and you can pick up Battlefield V for 75% off — going for only $12.49 USD. The store allows you to browse by genre or theme, so you can check out strategy or open-world games at your interest.
Buying games will grant you points to spend at the Points Shop. The Summer Sale has a plethora of new profile items for games like Hades, Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Village, and more. Be sure to check it out if you have some money burning a hole in your wallet. Oh, and happy adventuring.
