Steam Deck unlocks portable hauling for American and Euro Truck Simulator 2

Now the work really never stops.

As Valve’s new portable PC gets ever nearer to its market release, the list of compatible titles is growing seemingly by the day. SCS Software, makers of the immensely popular American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 have officially announced that both titles fully playable on the Steam Deck.

In a recent blog post, SCS explains that its dev team was “excited” to tackle the mission of making sure both sims would be fully optimized for the new Steam Deck. “They have done everything it takes for players to enjoy the smoothest possible experience,” the post reads.

This includes the implementation of “special bindings” and also “a basic version of touchscreen support” used for menu navigation. The Steam Deck version of American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 also happen to be fully compatible with the recently outfitted Convoy mode both games possess: a feature that allows for full online play.

Haulin’ on the go

Another interesting tidbit that SCS’ post mentions is that this work to optimize the sim experience for the Steam Deck has benefitted the regular PC versions of the titles as well. This comes in the form of improved UI elements for gamepads and steering wheels. Now, there will be a “bindings legend on the screen to always be sure which button has what purpose.” The team has also implemented other “general small improvements” and intends to continue supporting these extra peripherals to a further degree in the future.

Considering the sheer popularity of American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2, it’s no surprise that SCS ensured that support would be taken care of in time for the launch of the Steam Deck. In fact, the team is encouraging early adopters to share their experiences once they get a chance to play.

Valve recently launched an online Steam Deck compatibility tool page that shows users what games from their personal library are confirmed to work on the Steam Deck. You can have a look for any other games you might be interested in playing.
