Over the weekend the Starfighter Inc Kickstarter closed out, but fell short of the 250k funding goal.

As the clock ticked down there was a quick influx of contributions and the campaign ended up at $226,831. Close, but, as they say, no cigar.

During the live chat session the Impeller Studios dev team took questions from backers, and although it became apparent that the campaign was unlikely to raise the funds, they decided to stick it out for the duration and take more feedback on board.

The good news for anyone who did back the space dogfighting sim is that development and funding will continue, and will now take place through their own website.

One of the reasons the studio think the Starfighter Inc campaign failed to reach the goal was a lack of video footage. They managed to piece together some early alpha footage but that was only three days or so before the campaign was to close.

Another issue appears to have been the lack of a single player campaign as part of the main funding goal, which caused many backers to stay away. Single player was a funding stretch goal but it was placed in the millions.

Having watched the Kickstarter page for a number of days I still think the beta access was priced a little high at $50.

If you remain interested in the game keep an eye on the Impeller Studios website where there’s also a newsletter for future updates.
