Starfield is a game of possibilities and space-faring, where you can visit countless planets and interact with many, many species of creatures. With such limitless horizons, it may be senseless to settle down in the chaos of the universe. However, outpost-building will do more for you than ‘settle you down’, as they can be farmed for XP if done right. Here’s how to use Animal Husbandry to farm XP in Starfield.
How to exploit Animal Husbandry for XP in Starfield
Unlocking Animal Husbandry in Starfield
To even think about starting up a farm, you need to have the correct ability to harvest from them. The Zoology skill, even at just rank 1, will allow you to harvest from animals without harming them. This is required for the farming process. You will also learn more from your scanner and will net you more organic resources.
Also, before you can build your facility, you need to make sure you have a suitable location mapped out. Find a planet with fauna life, and fully scan one of the native species (that is allowed in Outpost production). Your facility will be constructed in that creature’s biome .
Building your facility
With your animal selected, location chosen, and Zoology skill all set, it’s time to build the place. Open the build menu and select the Animal Husbandry Facility. This building will cost:
- Aluminum (8)
- Adaptive Frame (5)
- Reactive Gauge (3)
- Sealant (3)
Once constructed, you’ll naturally need to connect power sources, water extractors, and storage units to the building. It requires 3 power to operate.
When the above steps have been completed, passive animals will be attracted to it! Once you spot them, open the console outside of the building to check what you can produce from them.

Farming animals… to farm XP
The animals that spawn around your buildings will all be passive, so they will never attack you or fight back. This allows you to camp out near your facility and farm away at the animals. If you set your difficulty to extra hard, let the game spawn in super powerful creatures, then change the difficulty to very easy, you’ll be getting mass amounts of EXP for very little effort.
You can build more facilities to encourage the spawn rate, but one is enough for this XP farm.
