IncGamers’ StarCraft channel StarCraftWire has further investigated Blizzard’s decision to leave LAN play out of StarCraft II

IncGamers broke the story about Blizzard leaving its multiplayer roots, and focusing solely on Battle.net. Over 87.000 fans have since signed an online petition to include LAN in the sequel to the popular action RTS.
The developer cited two official reasons for the omission of LAN play: to stop piracy and to bring the community together. The original StarCraft lacked such online cohesion and, while very popular, has also been widely pirated in China, one of the new markets Blizzard is targeting.
