Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm 18 Months Away?

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

Speaking at the GDC, Blizzard’s Greg Canessa discussed the development of Battle.Net and also dropped a small hint that the next StarCraft 2 installment will not be appearing for a further 18 months
Previously it was thought the second part, called Heart of the Swarm, would hit around twleve months after the Wings of Liberty release. However, it looks like the on-going development of Battle.net. The launch of the WoW expansion in December and WoW battle.net integration may have slowed things down slightly. Discussing the planned Battle.Net features he added:
“…a main area of focus we’re going to be seeing on the Starcraft 2 side over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm.”
Some fans are now hoping that this will mean that Diablo 3 could see the light of day next year, but with the StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 teams being separate, the next StarCraft 2 release is unlikely to have an effect on the release of Diablo 3. However, if the powers that be decide that it would make financial sense to get a new game out next year then there could be light at the end of the tunnel for Diablo gamers. Possible but we think unlikely.
