Star Trek Online: Upcoming Features Announced

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

The latest Engineering report has been released for Star Trek Online fans to peruse, revealing many upcoming features that are currently in testing, under investigation, in development and much more for the game. Under the ‘In Testing’ bracket, we have Veteran Rewards, presumably bonuses for players that have been with the game for a certain amount of time, a new playable Federation species, the Caitians, and some fixes to Fleet Action level banding. There’s also Season 2 content being tested right now. Cryptic is investigating many issues reported by players such as Away Team behaviour, the disappearance of weapons during combat, camera clipping through ship hulls and more. The lengthy ‘In Development’ bracket, which mainly focusses on season 2 content, includes some long-awaited features; Rank up to level 51, player ship interiors, new mini-games, Klingon PvE, Fleet logos, Klingon costume customisation updates and gamepad/controller support, to name a few. There’s also a number of other features that “may or may not” make it into Season 2 such as episode replays, a Poker minigame and the ability to sit in chairs (!!). Players may be pleased to see that several items which were only available to those who pre-ordered the game from various different outlets will soon be able to purchase them from the C-store. Several costume packs including the Federation DS9, TNG and TOS will be on sale, along with a Federation Borg Bridge Officer and many other items. Further down the line, Cryptic is looking to add more goodies; expect to one day see off-duty costumes, merc outfits and formal wear, new ships and new species. Check out the Engineering Report for more info.
