The weekly development update from the Star Citizen team look at the progress games progress leading up to the 2.0 release.
The “2.0 release stream is in lockdown now” which means that some of the more complicated hurdles they have encountered recently are finally being sorted and tested.  The update goes on to explain the changes to the Main Menu to improve the user experience and help players get into the game quicker by letting players choose what they want to load via this menu.
The most interesting part of this update is the enhancements of the ship UI which they have demonstrated in a new video showing the Avenger, Cutlass, and Constellation UI changes. It’s hard to tell how this will all fit together if you’re a HOTAS user because there appears to be a need for a lot of mouse action.
In Elite Dangerous you can pretty much play the game completely with a HOTAS setup and avoid using a mouse if it’s configured carefully. The video below shows that the Star Citizen ship UI appears to need a lot more precision to tweak a ship’s systems. This might be less of a problem on a multi-crew ship but could be challenging in a single seater. Presets will have to come in to play to make quick switches possible.
