Yesterday, Chris Roberts’ proposed space sim for the PC raised $500,000 USD through its recently-launched Kickstarter campaign. As I wrote at the time, this Kickstarter is a little unusual as it was supplemental to a crowd funding effort already underway on Roberts’ official site for the game.
In total, Star Citizen was looking for $2.0 million USD in cash. Between the two sources of donations, the game has now exceeded that goal. Roberts’ own site has banked $1.45 million USD with a reported 15 days still to go, while the Kickstarter is now over $600,000 USD with 24 days left.
It’s probably safe to say that a few ‘stretch goals’ will be chased down in the coming days.
“I’m proud to represent this cause and I’m tremendously humbled by the incredible community that has rallied to my side… Like me, you have all seen Star Citizen, no matter what you may have called it, in your head for many years… and thanks to your collected efforts; I’m going to build it for you,” Chris Roberts writes in an update on the Kickstarter page.
In addition, he has shared a design document detailing the five ships listed as rewards on various pledge levels.
