Spintires: MudRunner 2 announced, more details coming in 2019

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Saber Interactive delivered Spintires: MudRunner back in late 2017 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Since launch, the team has been working on expanding the game with new content. A Nintendo Switch version was also announced earlier this year and will be released sometime in the Fall. But, it turns out there’s been more to the MudRunner story than expected.

Out of scenic nowhere, MudRunner 2 has been announced. Saber has stated that MudRunner 2 will build upon the existing game with “new features and enhancements”. The team will once again be partnering up with Focus Home Interactive who will take care of the publishing duties.

No release date has been announced yet for Spintires: MudRunner 2. But, it has been confirmed that more info about the game will be unveiled in Q1 of 2019.

Personally, I find this move to be a bit weird. The new American Wilds DLC expansion is set to release this fall; possibly around the same time the Switch version launches. Since the sequel has been formally announced, that seems to indicate that the American Wilds expansion will be the last major release for the original MudRunner. If it were me, I would’ve announced the sequel next year instead, so as not to take attention away from the new content for the existing game. But, what’s done is done. In any case, it will be interesting to see how MudRunner 2 improves upon the formula. What would you like to see from it?
