Today’s Spider-Man 2 update introduced long-requested features, such as New Game Plus and the ability to change weather. However, an unintentional feature has left players even more excited, giving them a glimpse of upcoming DLC content.
Fans with a keen Spidey Sense have discovered that Insomniac has accidentally allowed players to access the “Dev Menu” by pressing both thumbsticks in the Save Slot menu. Among the options for demos and a debug menu is Mission and Activities, which allows players to jump straight into any mission or activity in the game.
Traversing to the Silver Path section of the menu brings up a section labeled “Beetle Villain Arc,” containing various options centered around the iconic Spider-man villain Beetle, who doesn’t appear in the base game.
Plans for a free Beetle DLC, along with Carnage and Spider-Verse content, were previously leaked as part of Insomniac’s infamous data breach. However, it was unknown whether or not these plans would come to fruition.
Players looking for a sneak peek at future Spider-Man content will be disappointed, however, as selecting any of Beetle’s menu options will simply begin the game as usual. At the very least, the “Beetle Janice Intro” menu option reveals Beetle’s identity as Janice Lincoln, Tombstone’s daughter.
Insomniac is aware of the Dev Menu exploit, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to inform players that using the menu “could corrupt your saves and trophy progress” and that a hotfix is on the way.
In addition to (potentially) confirming upcoming DLC, players can access the Debug Frontend through the Dev Menu. This allows access to options like invincibility and the ability to complete New Game Plus instantly. Now, that’s what I call a speedrun.
In terms of features players were actually meant to see, Spider-Man 2’s March update added the ability to change tendril color, time of day settings, gold gadgets, replayable missions, and new Symbiote suit styles unlockable in New Game Plus.
