Spellbreak Toxic Cloud

Spellbreak The Gathering Storm update arriving later this month with Halloween content

Prepare to clash.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Things have been going well for Spellbreak, with millions of registered players and generally favorable reviews. The free-to-play battle royale allows players to wield a variety of magical powers and items. Things are only getting better, too. Come October 22, there will be a new free update to Spellbreak called Prologue: The Gathering Storm, which will add a slew of new ways to play and feel entertained. There will be new content such as quests and challenges, Talents, Halloween themed cosmetics, and a new mode called Clash.

As the name of the update suggests, it will likely serve as the first step for a live narrative or map/gameplay changes in the game. This is common in many battle royales, but that is not the main focus of developer Proletariat. Instead, the studio discussed details about what players can expect in the near future.

Unfortunately, we don’t know a whole lot about the new challenges and weekly quests at this point. More information will likely be shared when the update is ready. However, we do know more about the new Talents coming to Spellbreak in the Gathering Storm update. There will be three Talents in total, which include Vigor, Ambidextrous, and Foresight.

Things are about to get crowded.

Vigor should be fairly self-explanatory if you’re familiar with its common use in fantasy/magic themes. You will gain bonus health from using this Talent. Ambidextrous is also fairly self descriptive. It allows you to use your passive ability in your offhand gauntlet. That should allow for added flexibility in the heat of battle. If you want more utility though, the Foresight Talent is perfect. It reveals nearby players on your minimap and shows future shrines/circles.

Storm the battlefield

We also mentioned that there will be a new mode called Clash. It’s a 9v9 team deathmatch variant with three squads on each team. It should be a significant change up to the existing modes, and it’s probably the closest thing to big team battle you will see.

Proletariat is still keeping a lid on all things Halloween related, but it did promise new outfits, artifacts, cloudbursts, afterglows, emotes, and badges. The magical world of Spellbreak also appears to celebrate its own version of the holiday, known as “Hollowed Eve.” Proletariat is no stranger to zombies, as its first game it ever made was all about the undead. We might see some crossover material, but we’re sure to see some sort of spooky things.

Spellbreak is available through the Epic Games Store. If you decide to jump in and try it for yourself, definitely give our guides a check first. Just like with any multiplayer game, the competition is fierce. You will want every advantage you can get.
