Sons of the Forest guide – How to make a basic fire
The process to make a basic fire in Sons of the Forest is actually quite simple. You’ll only need at least two sticks. These can be found scattered all over the ground or you may also pick them up by felling small trees. This is done by equipping your Axe (press “I” to open your inventory so you can equip it). Look for small trees or shrubbery, then start chopping and slashing them. Press the “E” key to gather any sticks that may have fallen. You should receive anywhere from one to five sticks depending on the size of the small tree that you cut down.
Once you have the sticks, you’ll want to equip them via your inventory. Next, look directly at the ground. This should show a white outline of how the sticks are to be placed:
- By default, you’ll place them down horizontally if you left-click. If you right-click, that will change the orientation, and you’ll end up making a standing fire instead.
- When at least two sticks are placed down horizontally, you can equip your lighter by pressing the “L” key.
- Then, look at the two sticks and you should see the “E” button prompt. Hold the “E” key and your character will finally make a basic fire in Sons of the Forest. This will help you keep warm, while also giving you a light source at nighttime.
- If you want to make it last longer, you can create a reinforced fire instead, which is done by placing small rocks alongside sticks.
Related: The basic fire/reinforced fire objects are used to cook meat, so you might want to start hunting/trapping animals. Likewise, you may also build a standing fire/skull lamp.
Sons of the Forest is available via Steam.
