Sega has revealed the required specifications for Sonic Frontiers. The next installment in Sega’s signature platforming franchise releases on November 8, and there have been some concerns over how demanding it would be to run. Especially with a recent trailer showing off some impressive visuals. However, it turns out that the PC requirements for Sonic Frontiers aren’t too demanding.
The recommended specs are a Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel equivalent, 12 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or equivalent, and 30 GB of available storage space. Specs at that level will manage 60 fps on high settings at 1080p resolution.
However, those willing to play at 30 fps at 720p will be able to run Sonic Frontiers on much weaker hardware. To achieve that performance, all you’ll need is an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or equivalent, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or equivalent, and 30 GB of available storage space.
For both 1080p and 720p, the PC requirements for Sonic Frontiers are nothing special. Most PC gamers will have the specs required to satisfy both the minimum and recommended system requirements. However, Sega has not provided the recommended specs for 1440p or 4K gameplay. However, it’s reasonable to assume that at least an RTX series card or AMD equivalent will be required at those higher resolutions.
Sonic‘s recent fortunes
Sonic games over the last decade have been hit and miss. Some entries such as Generations and Colors were well received, while others were not. At its worst, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric only managed a metascore of 32 on Metacritic with reviewers criticizing it.
Sonic Frontiers has already shown that it isn’t afraid to change things up. It will feature an open-world environment with a focus on exploration and adventure. A change of that magnitude might be exactly what the Sonic series needs. Hopefully, Frontiers lives up to the hype and delivers an experience that Sonic fans deserve.
