Frictional Games’ upcoming aquatic horror game SOMA now has a Steam store pre-order page and some accompanying PC system specs to have a look at.
They don’t appear to be overly demanding, but the attendant Steam screenshots make the game out to be fairly attractive in a murky, damp, undersea research base kind of way. As you’d expect from such a game, SOMA seems to be making good use of shadow.
Anyway, here’s the standard of machine you’ll need:
Minimum:
- OS: 64-bit Windows 7
- Processor: iCore i3 / AMD A6
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: Mid-range NVIDIA GeForce 400 series / AMD Radeon HD 5000 series with 1GB VRAM.
- Hard Drive: 25 GB available space
- Additional Notes: Integrated Intel graphics cards are not supported.
Recommended:
- OS: 64-bit Windows 7
- Processor: iCore i5 / AMD FX
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: High-range NVIDIA GeForce 400 series / AMD Radeon HD 8000 series with 2GB VRAM.
- Hard Drive: 25 GB available space
- Additional Notes: Integrated Intel graphics cards are not supported.
In addition to that, Frictional’s long-time audio collaborator Mikko Tarmia has released a short video explaining some of the methods behind creating music for SOMA. Watch out for a particularly strange synth-modulator tool that you sort of play like a wind instrument.
SOMA will be released on 22 September.
