Welcome to Trippytown
I’ll just collectively call these locations “Trippytown.” You’ll know why once you reach the first zone since it’s like someone has warped reality.
Cross the gaps until you reach a platform with a strange, glowing machine. There are two chests here, and the one on the right can be grabbed immediately.
As for the one that’s further ahead, you’ll need to solve a puzzle:
- Have four characters stand on the four yellow tiles.
- The platforms to the side will rotate, revealing purple tiles. Have each character step on a tile.
- The central platform with the machine will rotate. Have one character step on and off their plate to get to spin until you see the blue tiles facing up.
- Have a character on each tile and you’ll notice that the platforms are reforming. You should be able to reach the chest which has a Magnificent Staff (Staff of Metis).
When you’re done, go to the left side to encounter the Cube of Light. It mostly does Cone of Cold, so watch out. Your team should be able to burst it down quickly enough.
It’ll drop a gem that you can interact with, and teleports you to Trippytown Part 2.
There are some vampire and elemental mobs here, but you shouldn’t have any trouble with them. At the center of the dais, you’ll find a book called the Tome of All Things. When equipped, all your ability scores are set to 20! Wow!
Unfortunately, if you try to enter the Mage Tower, the specter won’t let you through until you return the tome. Aww…
Zhoron boss fight
Anyway, follow the spectral servant as she leads you to her master, Zhoron. There are some dialogue options here (i.e., saving a prisoner or picking up loot like the strange oil and lifestone). You are warned that Zhoron won’t like it if you interfere, but don’t pay attention to that. You do need to fight this mage.
Zhoron only has a minuscule health pool, but he’s shielded and immune to all damage. Likewise, there are four spectral minions here who’ll annoy you, and constant lightning damage to deal with if you touch the beams.
The idea is to move quickly to reach the four statues in the room (use spells like Flight or Longstrider). If you interact with all four, Zhoron’s shield will be broken and you’ll battle the Green Dragon. It has 207 HP, but it doesn’t resist most attacks. Still, it does have a wind blast and a sweeping move that can hit everyone around it.
When you’re done, pick up the gem to finish this part of the main quest. You’ll be asked to return to Caer Cyflen.
What else lies ahead?
After a few cutscenes and dialogue, you’re given a quest called “No Way Back!” I guess the exclamation point makes sense because this is the point of no return in Solasta: Crown of the Magister.
The quest’s objective says that you need to talk to the Council. As such, once you have this in your journal, avoid going anywhere near the Council’s doorstep as this will trigger the next phase. You’ll be locked out from all other sidequests, and you’ll have no choice but to finish the campaign. Do make sure that you have a separate save the moment you see “No Way Back!” as a main quest.
So, what does happen if you continue onward? Well, I don’t want to spoil it. But, sufficed to say, you’ll want a lot of AoE and crowd control spells. Good luck.
Solasta: Crown of the Magister is available via Steam. For more information, check out our guides and features hub.
