Ability scores and attributes: Dice rolls vs. the point-buy system
Solasta: Crown of the Magister has six ability scores, also known as attributes or stats in other RPGs: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Each class tends to prioritize a select few ability scores, and the panel on the right even shows you which ones to take. For instance, a Rogue should go with DEX, followed by CON and INT as priorities.
Dice Rolls
The first method of allocating your points is via the dice roll system. Simply roll six dice, then assign them manually or click “optimize” to make it automatic. You can also keep rerolling dice until you get ideal values (i.e., getting an 18/18/17/15/12/12 roll or something like this that can be assigned).
Point-buy system
Then, there’s the second method, the point-buy system. The default value gives you 27 points to allocate to each stat. However, if you click on the “free edit” button, you’ll get an unlimited number of points. You’ll be able to allocate them to have ability scores reach their nominal caps. It makes for characters who’d have an advantage in these checks due to high values right off the bat, though it’s also a bit cheesy.
All right, let’s move on to the next part of our Solasta: Crown of the Magister character creation guide to deal with proficiencies, skills, and languages.
