Although downloadable content and updates can often come across as exploitative, they still usually serve as exciting opportunities to extend the life of our favorite games. Players generally agree, though, that content updates are at their best when they come out completely free of charge, allowing everyone who owns the base game to get a slice of the action. The Butcher’s Banquet update for Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 represents one such case. Starting today, players can download it into the base game without having to pay a cent. Developer CI Games posted a trailer for the expansion this morning.
Butcher’s Banquet drops players into a brand new desert region that contains “luscious oases, dramatic waterfalls, and mysterious temples.” This expansion takes place after the events of the main campaign, and players have to contend with a variety of new threats. You’ll especially have to watch out for Mahmoud Zarza, also known as “The Butcher,” who seems to serve as the expansion’s main antagonist.
Building upon the base experience
According to CI Games, Butcher’s Banquet “builds on all the elements players loved about the base game, including the [1,000-meter-plus] extreme-range sniping, next-gen graphics, more intelligent NPCs, and the most lethal array of weapons yet.” The main game sees players taking control of Raven as they attempt to put an end to a ruthless dictatorship in the fictional Middle Eastern setting of Kuamar. Players can accomplish this by taking part in “a series of replayable missions that can be approached in a number of ways.”
Fans of Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 will certainly look forward to playing the sizable Butcher’s Banquet update so soon after the base game’s launch. And it helps greatly that they can do so without needing to spend more hard-earned cash. Players who do not yet own the base game can purchase it on online stores for $39.99 USD.
