First, on 28 September in the UK, a 500GB hard disk drive edition will be launched. Then, on 12 October, a 12GB flash memory model is due.

Both are smaller and lighter than the current PlayStation 3 systems thanks a redesign of the “internal design architecture”. The new models will be 20 – 25 per cent lighter than the current PS3 Slim and half the weight of the original console.

The 12GB flash memory model is designed to allows consumers to “experience the world of PlayStation at an affordable price” and will be upgradable with a 250GB hard drive if you choose to. The 250GB hard drive will launch on the same day, 12 October, as the console.

No UK prices have been announced, although those in mainland Europe are looking at prices of €230 for the 12GB flash memory model and €300 for the 500GB hard drive.
