Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the first game created in the West to achieve a 40/40 score from Japan’s weekly Famitsu magazine. Famitsu’s scores are worked out by having four reviewers score the game out of ten, these are added together to get a final score.
Various Western games have come close to receiving the top score in the past; Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3 and FIFA 12 all received 39/40.
Famitsu has handed out 17 ‘perfect’ scores in total, the last three years seeing 10 of those.
Skyrim joins the lofty company of games such as Ocarina of Time, Nintendogs, Pokemon Black/White, Soul Calibur, Vagrant Story, Metal Gear Solid 4, Bayonetta and Monster Hunter Tri in the 40/40 club.
