Chatting with OXM, Bethesda’s Todd Howard has mentioned that Skyrim will try to bring back some of the ‘alien’ feel of Morrowind.
This is good news for those who felt the previous Elder Scrolls title, Oblivion, was a little too sterile. Howard seems sympathetic to this view, saying that “In [Oblivion] we sacrificed some of what made Morrowind special.”
As for what approach Skyrim will try to take, Howard puts it like this: “With Skyrim, we’re trying to bring some of that back and walk the line between Morrowind and Oblivion. Where it’s at first familiar looking, but has its own unique culture and spin on it.”
That’s a bit of a ‘third way’ statement, but if Skyrim can recapture some of the strangeness of Morrowind, that would be welcomed by a lot of Elder Scrolls fans (though probably not the ones who are still holding out for another Daggerfall.)
Bethesda are aiming to have Skyrim released before the end of this year, on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
