Ubisoft’s troubled pirate-themed game Skull and Bones has been delayed out of this year and will now make port next March. This is only the latest in a long series of delays for the game, which has had reported issues such as mismanagement and workplace toxicity. Ubisoft finally revealed the game with trailers and a release date earlier in the year. Unfortunately for you swashbucklers, you’ll have to wait a bit longer.
The company announced the news with a rather brief and to-the-point news post today. In a separate press release, Ubisoft writes that Skull and Bones team needs to “further polish and balance the experience using players’ feedback from our Technical tests and Insider Program which happened over the past two weeks.” Due to this, Skull and Bones has been delayed until March 9, 2023. Hopefully this new date sticks.
“While the game development is finished at this stage, the extra time will be used to further polish and balance the experience using players’ feedback from our Technical tests and Insider Program which happened over the past two weeks,” the company writes in a press release. “This is the right decision both for our players and for the long-term success of the game as March 9, 2023 provides for a suitable release window for this very unique new brand.”
Don’t weigh anchor just yet
Though Skull and Bones has seen another delay, Ubisoft is going to let captains pirate their own ships on its rough waters pretty soon. In the message today, the company is setting up an Open Beta ahead of the new release date. The beta will give you “the opportunity to discover the game’s unique take on the piracy fantasy, its gritty naval combat as well as the immersive and beautiful seas of the 17th century Indian Ocean.”
There’s no scheduled time for the Open Beta. However, the company promises more information will be available soon.
