Ironclad, the developers known for Sins of a Solar Empire, have announced Sins of a Dark Age, which aims to blend 4x strategy activities with real time action. Or, in the words of Ironclad themselves, “we took the best parts of each, innovated on both, and added our own twists and turns”.
The game will be free-to-play and features something the developers are dubbing “Hero and Commander Strategy”. In effect, this seems to mean that you’ll join an online team made up of one commander and several heroes, working together to achieve set goals (either head to head against other real life players, or co-operating against the AI).
An “ever-growing” pool of commanders, heroes and factions is promised, as are unique capabilities for each character (so that’s where your micro-payments will be going).
Sins of a Dark Age will release on PC later this year. No screenshots seem to have been released yet, but do enjoy the fantasy concept art below.
