It’s been an extremely long wait, but Konami has finally announced a new game in the Silent Hill franchise. At the very end of today’s Silent Hill Transmission, the game was revealed. It’s called Silent Hill F and it got its first trailer today. The game is being developed by NeoBards Entertainment Ltd. That’s not a name most will be familiar with, but the studio has worked in the background on multiple Resident Evil titles, including the two remakes and some ports. It also did work on Marvel’s Avengers. The developer is based in Taiwan and this would appear to be its first solo game, if in fact it’s handling full development duties.
In addition to that information, the trailer lists Silent Hill F‘s character designer as “kera.” Though there doesn’t seem to be much of anything pointing as to who that is exactly. But the video does share that the story is being handled by Ryūkishi07, the writer behind the classic visual novel Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni among others. At the very least, he’ll be a good fit considering his background in violent, psychologically powerful horror stories.
Return to terror
Details from the trailer state that Silent Hill F takes place in 1960s Japan. It begins by showing a Japanese town and a girl standing by a memorial covered with red flowers. The woman initially drags a weapon on the street before showing that the town is overrun with a red growth. We see the growth spread before it tries to absorb the woman, causing her to run screaming. Cut to a woman floating on a mass near a torii gate before the mass reaches limbs in the water that grow bloody flowers. The camera pans in to show the woman succumbing to the red growth before shedding a single tear. And then her face falls off.
Yup, it’s a Ryūkishi07 story, all right. We’ll have more on the game as it’s known.
