The word “success” is not enough to describe the total sale numbers for Shovel Knight. Yacht Club Games’ indie release was one of the biggest success stories in the last years and the developer announced that the 2D platform game has sold more than 1.2 million copies across all platforms.

Originally, Shovel Knight gathered funds for its development from Kickstarter, where it reportedly raised over $300,000. The retro graphics combined with its awesome gameplay and mechanics made this game an instant hit among gamers and reviewers. The support for Shovel Knight was so huge that the game’s main character became an Amiibo (!) and he almost made it to the the Super Smash Bros. roster as a playable character.

You can have a more detailed look at the sales for Shovel Knight across platform in a very interesting graph below. More than 30% of the title’s sales came from Steam, with the Nintendo 3DS being the second-best selling platform.
