The second phase of Version 4.1 has begun, bringing players two new Character Event Wish banners to choose from. Cold as ice, Wriothesley is the headlining new character in these new banners, as the newest 5-star character in the game. Joining Wriothesley is a classic, and the first limited 5-star character in the game, Venti. Venti is the Anemo archon, and as he’s essentially a god, Venti boasts some strong abilities of his own. But which of these two characters are a better choice for your Primogems? Here’s our guide on whether you should pull for Wriothesley or Venti in Genshin Impact.
Should you pull for Wriothesley in Genshin Impact?
Wriothesley is yet another main DPS character hailing from Fontaine, and this character brings a couple of new things to the table. Wriothesley is the first 5-star Cryo Catalyst character, meaning all of his Normal Attacks are permanently infused with a Cryo infusion. And as another fun fact, he is also the first 5-star male character, giving husbando collectors (me) a unique reason to pull for him. As a Cryo catalyst character, Wriothesley actually has tons of team options open to him.
Wriothesley deals high damage and is versatile in team building. You can run him with another Cryo character and two Pyro characters for a nice reverse melt team, dealing explosive damage with his Cryo attacks. You can also run him in a Freeze team to keep the enemies frozen in place while you wreak havoc on them. Wriothesley is not only powerful but flexible in this regard, which can bring a lot of value if you’re in the market for a Cryo DPS character.
We recommend pulling for Wriothesley if you are looking for a strong and flexible Cryo DPS unit. Consider passing on Wriothesley if his playstyle does not interest you, or if you already have an influx of DPS units (particularly Cryo.)

Should you pull for Venti in Genshin Impact?
Venti used to be regarded as one of the strongest characters in Genshin Impact, trivializing a lot of content due to how his Elemental Burst works. Venti’s Elemental Burst sucks up small enemies into a large vortex made of Anemo energy, dealing tons of damage and rendering the enemies unable to move as they fly around in a vacuum of air. However, HoYoverse has indirectly nerfed Venti since his release at the start of the game by introducing tons of new enemies that simply do not get affected by the crowd-control aspect of his Elemental Burst.
Venti still can deal good damage with his Burst with good positioning. Additionally, as an Anemo unit, he can carry the strong “Viridescent Venerer” artifact set to reduce the elemental resistances of enemies. However, there are stronger Anemo support options currently in the game, such as Kazuha, or even Sucrose. Venti still can work in a Freeze team, but otherwise, he is generally a subpar option.
We don’t recommend pulling for Venti if you do not have him in his current state unless you need an Anemo support unit.
