Choices will make or break your reputation, allegedly. Will you be the hero or the villain of this story? Well, either way, start with little by little, and today’s step regards a strange figure named Bermudo in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Should you let him go once you encounter him? Let’s ponder this decision for a bit.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Who is Bermudo and how to find him
First of all, Bermudo is a stalker that will follow you across Vernworth during the night after your initial arrival to the city – whether it is by ox or by foot. However, you won’t get a quest alerting you about this stalking. Quite the contrary.
You see, if you have a Pawn or a group of Pawns with you, there is a chance that one of them will point out that there is a shadowy figure following you, which will trigger the quest named “The Arisen’s Shadow”. In my case, there was no remark or comment, but I did spot a figure following during the night. If you struggle with finding him, walk with the camera pointed to your back and you will not be able to miss him.
After you spot hit, you will have to run toward him and tackle him by pressing the grab button. He will, of course, escape the scene, so make sure to get to him by sprinting as if your life depended on it – which might as well be true. By the way, if you are a fighter and you’re using heavy armor, be sure to take some shortcuts because, man, I did struggle to get to him.
Once you tackle him, he will try to bribe you to let him go. You can accept his bribe or refuse it. But, what should you do?
Choice: letting Bermudo go
Letting Bermudo go will end up with you getting compensated for you “looking the other way”, earning you a couple of thousand gold, which is nice, to be honest. Then, he will disappear into the shadows of the night, never to be seen again – or maybe he decides to follow you more intelligently from now on, who knows.
Choice: refusing Bermudo’s bribe
The “canon” choice would be refusing Bermudo’s bribe since you are pretty much the “chosen one” of this land and we all know that those characters will always choose to do the right thing. Oh well, if you choose to refuse Bermudo’s offer, he will fight you in an attempt to kill you. Since you are no fool, you will have to fight him back with everything you’ve got, and your Pawns will follow through, of course. After all, this is a fair fight.
Once you take down half his HP, Captain Brant will come and apprehend him. He will interrogate him in hopes of getting any type of intel that could help you out with the false Sovren dilemma. Wait for a couple of days – or sleep at an inn or wait on a bench – and then visit Captain Brant. He will reveal Bermudo is, in fact, an agent of Battahl, give you thousands of gold, and complete the quest for you.
What should do about Bermudo?
The best choice, by far, is choosing to refuse Bermudo’s bribe, fight him, and then talk to Captain Brant. Not only will you get paid a similarly sized amount of money, but discovering that Bermudo is a Battahl agent will help you out in a future quest that will have you enter Battahl, so it is a choice that will reward you both in the short and long term, which is very important in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and its quest system. Otherwise, be prepared to take some extra steps down the road to Battahl.
See? Being the good guy surely pays out! It isn’t mandatory for this quest, but hiring Pawns will make this and many more quests easier, so be sure to carry a party full of them. You can even bring your friends’ Pawns if you want.
