Should you follow the red footprints in Witchfire?

Should you follow the red footprints in Witchfire?

Blood red footprints? Seems safe.

Witchfire is the latest game from The Astronauts, part of the team that also produced Bulletstorm. However, this time, they have taken their fast-paced action and polished it into a nail-biting first-person shooter, rogue-lite. The spooky environments slowly begin to punish you further and further as you progress through the levels, driving you to improve your weapons and magic. Throughout the maps, you will have random encounters that can lead to doom or gloom. When the mysterious red footprints appear in Witchfire, should you follow them, or will they lead you to eternal damnation?

Should you follow the red footprints in Witchfire?

I think that, depending on how far through clearing the map you are, determines if you should or not. The feet are not attached to any earthly body, so they will happily lead you through hordes of enemies. If you’re prepared to clear them out, this isn’t a problem. The red footprints will wait for you as you kill the various enemies in Witchfire.

The feet are much easier to follow when you have nobody on the map.

Rewards for following the red footprints

The footprints will usually lead to loot. It is often a cursed artifact that you will automatically trade-in at the end of the mission. These artifacts are swapped for Witchfire gold to be spent in your base.

Of course, it is possible to find these Witchfire artifacts yourself, but it is much easier to be led to them by the red footprints. If you’re sneaky enough, you can even get past the hordes without fighting.

The dangers

Looking down at the ground, rather than around you, will often lead you right into a horde of enemies. Personally, I prefer to map my routes around a Witchfire map, picking off the easiest groups, grabbing the bonuses, and ending with the hardest. Following the red footprints in Witchfire will often mess up your whole plan.
