When you arrive in the city of Vernworth in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and meet with Brant, he’ll give you three choices for your first big quest. Which is the best one to choose, though?
To increase your notoriety as the true Arisen and begin the downfall of the False Sovran, there are three starting quests to complete. You can ask Brant to tell you of monster culling, tell you of the queen regent, or tell you of the magistrate. Each of these will send you down a different main story path with an entirely different objective, but the choice isn’t as important as you may think.
Monster Culling, Queen Regent, and Magistrate Quest Differences
Choosing one option won’t lock you out of the other three, and you can actually pick up all three quests at once. Dragon’s Dogma 2 makes this seem like an important choice, but it’s not. You can do these quests in any order and you won’t miss out on any content if you ignore some of them for now.
If you choose the monster culling option, then you’ll get a quest appropriately titled “Monster Culling,” which sends you to three places in the region surrounding Vernworth to take care of some troublesome monsters. There are groups of people that need defending and caves with goblins that need clearing. It’s the usual early-game RPG stuff.
If you choose the queen regent option, then you’ll get a quest called “Disa’s Plot” which involves sneaking into the Vernworth Castle to uncover evidence of the queen regent’s misdeeds. It’s a quick and easy quest, but you’ll need to get your hands on the appropriate attire to enter the castle without raising suspicion. This will cost you a ton of gold or require you to complete other quests beforehand, so you may have to wait on this one.
Finally, choosing the magistrate option unlocks a quest called “The Caged Magistrate.” This mission requires you to break Magistrate Waldhar out of the dungeon near Vernworth Castle. It’s a simple quest, but Waldhar won’t leave his prison cell that easily. Expect some resistance if you get caught by the guards patrolling the gaol, too.
Ultimately, you’ll need to complete all three of these quests to continue the main storyline of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Not all of them can be completed easily as a low-level character though, so go explore and complete some side quests to gear up and get some gold. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is all about exploration, after all, so take your time and don’t rush through the main story.
