Dragon's Dogma 2 Accompany Or Make Your Own Way Decision

Should you accompany them or make your own way to the Capital in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

This decision ought not be hard.

After leaving Melve in Dragon’s Dogma 2, fighting hordes of enemies, journeying past Gathering of Beasts, and slaying your first Cyclops, you’re given a choice to accompany the soldiers on the oxcart to the Capital or make your own way. Hopefully, after reading this guide, this decision is an easy one.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 In Dragon’s Wake: Oxcart or walk?

Gregor, the captain of the guards you’re traveling with, asks whether you want to walk to Vernworth or accompany him in the oxcart after defeating the Cyclops. I recommend taking the oxcart.

Taking the oxcart to the Capital

Since you battled your way here and just beat a Cyclops, you’re likely low on health. Since Vernworth is still a long way away, taking the oxcart is the safest and the best choice. Doing this allows you to learn the oxcart mechanic which is one of the main ways to fast travel between towns.

Usually, taking an oxcart costs around 100 Gold, but since you’re accompanying Gregor, it’s free. After saying you’ll go with Gregor, sit on the bench with the red cloth and select “Doze Off.” You can watch the oxcart move in real-time to Vernworth, but it’s dreadfully slow.

You won’t always run into a fight when taking an oxcart, but in this case, there is a fight between Melve and Vernworth. Once all the enemies are dealt with, hop back into the oxcart and Doze Off again. You’ve now made it to Vernworth and you know how the oxcart works.

Walking to the Capital

If you used a Camping Kit at the fireplace to heal near where the oxcart is parked, then you might consider making your own way. I’ve wrapped up the main quests in Vernworth and explored around 80% of the Vermund region, but I’ve still yet to explore all the nooks and crannies along the road connecting Melve and Vernworth because they are so out of the way.

I would recommend making your own way to the Capital only if your Loss Gauge isn’t too high. It’s the best opportunity you’ll get to explore the road to Vernworth. In the future, you’ll likely take an oxcart to and from Melve instead of walking the road. Then again, getting right to the excitement of Vernworth and the prospect of unlocking the Warrior and Sorcerer Vocations is a tempting one that may sway you to take the oxcart.
